LEARNING OBJECTIVES - This course was designed to allow the reader to:
• Understand some implications of clear but abstract ethical principles in the real world of therapy from a feminist perspective
• Understand violence against women, health and reproductive issues, and special concerns in treating children and older women
• Balance therapist self-care with clients’ needs
• Examine money issues including those that arise in managed health care
• Understand the feminist model for ethical decision making
• Learn the Feminist Therapy Code of Ethics
• Recognize the risks of dual relationships between therapist and client
• Learn the concerns a therapist should have with clients who are survivors of incest or sexual assault
• Understand now a feminist therapist may take on additional ethical dilemmas not confronted by non-feminist therapists
Elizabeth J. Rave, Ed.D., is Professor Emeritus of School Psychology and Women's Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, and is one of the founding members of the Feminist Therapy Institute.
Carolyn C. Larsen, Ph.D., Senior Counsellor Emeritus and former Director of the University Counselling Services, is Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
