• Learn the treatment options for harm reduction for illicit substance use and abuse
• Understand the benefits of the needle exchange program
• Learn the characteristics of African American communicative and behavioral patterns which must be incorporated into harm reduction efforts for the black community
• Learn harm reduction strategies for treating Native Americans

G. Alan Marlatt, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Addictive Behaviors Research Center at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is a member of the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse and a recipient of the Jellinek Memorial Award. His research is supported by a Senior Scientist Award and a MERIT Award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. He is co-editor (with Dennis M. Donovan) of ASSESSMENT OF ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS and (with Judith R. Gordon) RELAPSE PREVENTION, and a co-author of BRIEF ALCOHOL SCREENING AND INTERVENTION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS.
