Children's Literacy Project
An alarming number of children enter school without the language and literacy foundation they need to succeed — a situation with profound implications for their lives and for society. The good news is that almost all children can greatly increase their reading through early intervention programs. To date, ISHK has donated more than 250,000 books to early childhood literacy and school programs serving preK-Gr. 8, and we need to do more. Share Literacy relies on donations and grants to cover its direct expenses: production and printing of materials and professional development costs. Your contribution will go a long way to help.

Share Literacy Holiday Program
Please make a donation to allow us to provide Hoopoe Books for special holiday and other events give-away programs at agencies across the country serving at-risk children, the homeless and disadvantaged families.

Books for Afghanistan Program
This fund will help with the translations and development of Hoopoe books and complementary teaching materials to schools and children in Afghanistan, as well as help with the printing, shipping and distribution to children inside Afghanistan. You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to this effort, or by purchasing Hoopoe Books online, where the proceeds can go towards this project. Hoopoe Books for Pakistan
Your donation is desperately needed. Hoopoe Books/Share Literacy is now collaborating with DIL (Developments in Literacy) to donate these beautiful children's books by Idries Shah to the children they serve. DIL runs 150 schools serving approximately 15,000 children, especially girls, in underdeveloped regions in Pakistan. [click here for more information]

Hoopoe Books
Traditional Teaching-Stories of Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Middle East have been shown to activate the context-forming parts of the brain and help develop tolerance and more flexible thinking. Through our Hoopoe Books publishing project, we have now published a series of eight books with versions of these stories for children by Idries Shah. The beautiful illustrations feature authentic details of the art, architecture and dress of the region, providing much-needed positive images from these traditional cultures. The series has garnered many positive reviews, awards and distinctions. Three more titles are in the works for publication as our funds allow.

All About Me: Human nature series for children ages 10-14.
We need to understand more about our basic psychological makeup, how we behave in groups and how we are influenced. In the wake of tragedies like Columbine, developmental psychologists have found that such an understanding is important for very young children. With the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education (NUA) and the American Psychological Association (APA), we are exploring an exciting new program to make learning about human nature a part of early education.

The Human Journey website
A new website is under development to provide information from all the fields relevant to mankind's journey from the plains of Africa to modern cultures: psychology, biology, social sciences, anthropology and neurology. Our goal is to provide information in a way all of us can use to create a better future.
